Hilal Kaplan studied Psychology at Bilgi University (2004) and completed her MA in Sociology at Bogazici University (2006). She was politically active during her education years. She is known for protesting against the ban on headscarf in Turkey and other restrictions on liberties and rights.

She writes columns for the Turkish daily Yeni Safak. Also, she presents a TV political debate programme called ‘Muhalif’ (Opponent) on TVNET.
