CEFTUS Meeting with Shadow Minister for Europe Gareth Thomas MP

 

London based Centre for Turkey Studies (CEFTUS) had a meeting with Shadow Minister for Europe Gareth Thomas MP for further dialogue with regards to matters concerning Turkey, a peaceful solution to the Kurdish issue and the Cyprus issue. Director of the Centre for Turkey Studies, Mr Ibrahim Dogus, met Mr Thomas in British Parliament.

Gareth Thomas Labour MP for Harrow West was appointed Minister of State for International Development and Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform when the Labour Party was in government. Mr Thomas who is now Shadow Minister for Europe said that he hoped Turkey’s accession to the European Union makes further progress. He commented positively on the steps taken towards a solution to the Kurdish issue, which is among Turkey’s fundamental issues.

Mr Thomas referring to the Cyprus issue asserted that a permanent solution requires efforts from all sides. He added that he will make an official visit to Cyprus in the next coming months for a series of meetings and noted that he will also visit Northern Cyprus.

Mr Thomas kindly commented positively on the work of the Centre for Turkey Studies (CEFTUS) adding that he is keen to support the centre’s work in the future.
