Dr Pelin Kadercan
Pelin Kadercan is a Lecturer at Brown University, Providence, US. She specializes in Modern European and Middle Eastern history in a global context with a particular focus on modern Germany and Turkey and international human rights.
Pelin completed her Ph.D. in History at the University of Rochester, NY and holds a B.A. degree from Bogazici (Bosphorous) University, Istanbul. She is currently completing her book on transnational relations between Germany and Turkey since the late 19th century. Her research focuses on the German and Jewish émigrés from Nazi Germany in Turkey, exploring how the cross-territorial forces in the form of ideas and a real dialogue between multiple actors conditioned the nation-building processes as a dynamic space of decision-making.
Pelin also holds an MA degree in European Politics and International Relations from the European Union Institute at Marmara University. Her research interests lie in nations and nationalism, comparative education, issues of citizenship and immigration, comparative history of genocide and the Kurdish question in the Middle East. She writes a weekly column for “sizehaber.com”.
