Baroness Sarah Ludford

Baroness Sarah Ludford MEP was a Member of the European Parliament, representing London, from 1999 to 2014. She started her career as a UK civil servant, spent 7 years working for the European Commission and 5 years in the City as a European affairs adviser, and was an Islington councillor for 8 years in the 1990s. She was then appointed to the House of Lords in 1997. Baroness Ludford has been active on measures to combat human trafficking and sexual crime and to aid the search for missing children. She is also in the forefront of action on equality as vice-chair of the European Parliament’s anti-racism and diversity intergroup, and is an active member of the gay & lesbian intergroup. She is a vocal campaigner against anti-Semitic, Islamophobic and homophobic hate crime, while upholding the right to free speech and takes a strong interest in the Balkans, Turkey, Cyprus and the Middle East, and is a member of the Liberal Democrat Friends of Israel.
