A Special Community Reception In The UK Parliament: Celebrating The 100th Anniversary Of The Republic Of Turkiye

The Centre for Turkey Studies organized a reception at the UK Parliament to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Republic of Turkey. The reception, hosted by Labour Party MP Christian Wakeford, took place at the House of Commons, Jubilee Room, on November 16th. Former Hackney Mayor Philip Glanville, Lawyer Semira Dilgil, and Christian Wakeford’s assistant Matthew Torbitt delivered speeches at the reception, which hosted approximately 200 guests.

During the speeches, attention was drawn to the cultural and political ties established between Turkey and the UK, emphasizing how these connections strengthened community awareness. The celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey in the UK Parliament was pointed out as a result of these strong ties.
