Networking Dinner with Dengir Mir Mehmet Fırat

The Centre for Turkey Studies organised a business networking dinner with Dengir Mir Mehmet Firat, Former Deputy Leader of the governing AK Party in Turkey. This exclusive dinner hosted around 40 key business leaders from diverse communities in London that had a chance to network and discuss issues of common interest with our distinguished guest from Turkey.

Former MP and Deputy Leader of ruling AK Party, Dengir Mir Mehmet Firat, was the keynote speaker of the Centre for Turkey Studies Westminster Debate entitled ‘Turkey’s path to a new constitution’. The other panellists were Michael Fallon Conservative MP for Sevenoaks, Paul Goggins Labour MP for Wythenshawe and Sale East, Virenda Sharma Labour MP for Ealing Southall and Lord Tim Clement-Jones CBE. The meeting was hosted by Eric Joyce MP who had met Mr Firat in Turkey before.

Mr Firat was a Member of Parliament between 1999 and 2011 and is considered to be one of the most influential figures amongst Kurdish politicians working for the AKP. During his three-day visit to London, he met with a number of British MPs, Peers and policy makers.  Mr Firat had meetings with Mr Virendra Sharma Labour MP for Ealing Southall, Lord Mohamed Sheikh and Lord William Wallace. Mr Firat was also invited to a dinner hosted by the Centre for Turkey Studies for the honourable parliamentarian from Turkey at the Mozz restaurant in Winchmore Hill. A number of businessmen, academics, journalists and professionals attended the dinner to speak with Mr Firat and network.
