The Centre for Turkey Studies (CEFTUS) is delighted to invite you to a Westminster Debate on ‘Peace Process and Turkey’s Military Coups’. CEFTUS is pleased to have our guest speaker, Idris Sahin AK Party MP for Cankiri and the Deputy Chairperson of the Committee on Constitution of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. Sahin is also a member and spokesperson of the Parliamentary Inquiry Committee on Military Coups and Memorandums and the Parliamentary Investigation Committee on the Societal Peace and Settlement Process.

The event will take place on Thursday 28th of November, between 7.00PM and 9.00PM in Committee room 12, House of Commons, Westminster. Please note that security checks are required to enter the House of Commons, so we kindly ask you to arrive at 06:30 PM, allowing the event to start and end promptly on time.

Speaker Biography

İdris Şahin is an AK Party (Justice and Development Party) MP for Cankiri. Şahin is a lawyer by profession. He graduated from the Faculty of Law, Istanbul University. He worked as a lawyer at his own law office in Çankırı. He was elected as the President of Çankırı Bar Association in 2008 and served for two consecutive terms. During his term, he served as Delegate for High Council of Union of Turkish Bar Associations. Şahin was elected as the Chairperson of the AK Party Provincial Unit in Çankırı at the first ordinary congress. Apart from a short interval due to his military service, he served as the Provincial Chairperson until June 11, 2011 general elections when he was elected to be an MP. Şahin is currently the Deputy Chairperson of the Committee on Constitution of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. He has been elected as a member and spokesperson of the Parliamentary Inquiry Committee on Military Coups and Memorandums and the Parliamentary Investigation Committee on the Societal Peace and Settlement Process.
